Dinner Parties and Snicker Doodles

My mom had a dinner party Friday night. I got there to find the usual overboard spread of hordevoures. We waited around for a while and then the rest of the guests showed up: My Grandpa and Grandma Nagy, My Aunt Anne and friends of the family Sandy, Andy and Chuck Stoner. They were very cool people, the had really cool stories, in fact the only thing you could hold against them was that they were from Indiana, which they seemed to hold against themselves. Andy said he would read my blog so I am giving him a shout, hopefully he will comment. Andy just wrote a book about Frank O'Bannon, the ex - governor of Indiana.

So my Mom is trying to make Snicker Doodles for my brothers, my Dad and I. She keeps trying but she is not getting them right. They are good but they aren't what I think of as a Snicker Doodle. The should be dense and moist, hers are light and fluffy. They are good, but not what they should be. Now there are some that say that is the correct cookie. I say they are wrong and since this is my blog, I am right! So if you have any idea how to make Snicker Doodles the way I want them, Please! Let me know.

Apples....The Magical Fruit

We had some family up from Indiana. We are getting the table ready for dinner. In the middle of the table sits a great big yellow apple. Emily, picks it up, looks at it and asks "Did this come from a tree?"

The kitchen fell silent and then full of laughter. NO! it came from the ground. Apples are a magical fruit that comes from the ground. Not just any ground, but only the ground cared for by elves. Each day they go out and manage smurfs who actually do the work(every thing is out sourced these days, that damned NAFTA is ruining it for everyone). Then when it is time for harvest the elves hook up their Dings(ipods for those who didn't go to DC, but they have to keep upgrading b/c Steve Jobs keeps putting out new cooler models(elves can't resist shiny things)) to the sound system they got off of Ebay and play music from a Centaur, well he says he is the artist formally known as a Centaur. When the music starts the apples wiggle around in the dirt and then pop up in to the air(kind of like the cars in that new GM commercial) then they race off to the nearest box as fast as they can. It kind of looks like Tigers fans racing for World Series tickets. After they are in the box, they are taken to the barn to be graded for size and appearance b/c in America we are shallow and only like pretty things. Then they are packed and shipped to the store. Santa delivers them b/c he is only really busy one day a year and health care costs for the elves are sky rocketing( I tried to tell him to keep the union out but he caved, what a wus). So that is where we get apples from.

Now I know that Em didn't mean it like it sounded, but if you say something like that at Ma and Pa Skinner's you better be ready for what is coming.

So I was on my way to work at Monaco Trucking(my buddies trucking company) and I prayed I would hear something from Padnos, not thirty minutes later I got a call. I should have another interview next week. I love the way God works. So please pray for me. I really want to work at Padnos.

Make sure you get your magic apples from Skinner Homestead Acres.

Martha Stewart.........for the boys

In an earlier life, my roommates called me Martha Stewart, mainly because I was heavily involved in insider trading; but also because I can cook. So for the guys, I whipped up a quick and easy recipe so you can impress your woman, sound sophisticated but really do hardly anything.

Lemon Butter Cavatappi:
Take one box of cavatappi or a box of your favorite pasta
(I just like cavatappi b/c it is like grown up macaroni twists)
Follow the directions on the box for cooking the pasta.
Melt one stick of butter in a sauce pan
While the butter is melting add a dash of parsley to the butter
Role a lemon on the counter and then cut it in half
When the butter is done melting, squeeze the half lemon into the pan, stir quickly and then remove it from the heat.
When the noodles are done drain them, then stir in can of diced tomatoes.
Now poor your butter sauce over top and mix.
That's it.

It will take you all of 15 minutes, clean up is easy.

There you go guys, try it. Let me know what you think.

I've got to go. I have orange jump suites that need pressing.

Livin' the good life

I had a great day. I went to a job interview. I got a job offer. I went to work at my buddies trucking company and he bought me a laptop. I went and spent time with my inlaws and my nephew George. I played video games with George and we talked about what he did in school. I love George. I miss hanging out with him. When I saw him he came up and gave me a big hug. I have to tell you it warmed me right up. He is allot of fun.
Then I went over to my buddies house and drank beer. My cousin was there and his girlfriend. One of the good things about small towns is when you go "visiting" you never know who you will meet. I had a great time. A few beers and a good conversation makes for a great night.

I would like to give a shout out to Wes, Kramer and Flo. It was great to see you guys. I had a great time, lets do it again soon. Flo, I would love to see the pics from that night.

Any way I had a great day and I have a great life.

Has anyone out there read Revelations? I am reading it right now. If you have any background on it I would be very interested in it.

Did anyone watch the Monday Night Football Game last night. Watching the Cardinals lose makes me feel better about being a Lions fan.

What's Love got to do with it?

So, I have been going through some major life changes. In that we have had some questions on love. So I ask what is love to you? How do you know you love some one? How do you know they love you? Is there more than one person for each of us? Do you think you have a soul mate? Have you met that person?

I believe that love is what makes us who we are, the love our caregivers provide defines the type of person we will be come. It also sets the example of how we will love as adults. I believe there is more than one person for each of us. I believe that love with one person can be just as strong with another. I believe that we make a choice in who we are going to love even sub consciously knowing there maybe someone else some where down the road. Why b/c they make us happy, they believe in us at our weakest moments. They see our worst and they still love us.

I believe that if you ever find the type of love that my parents have you grab it as fast as you can and you never let go. My parents are getting close to 50. They love each other like they are 16. My Mom still gets a smile on her face when she speaks of him. My Dad still gets a twinkle in his eye when you mention her name. They kiss each other like it is the first, best and last kiss they will ever get. They touch just to touch and they fight just to make up. When everyone is sitting down to eat dinner they are standing at the table kissing and you can tell there is nothing else they would rather do. They believe that the other can do anything and the other always, always comes first.

So I ask you each of you what is love to you? Kramer? Mikie Moo? Megan? All of my in laws that don't comment, but I know you read it? Curneals? Tell me what is love to you?

You know you missed me

Sorry it has been so long since I last posted. Allot has happened. Dave the weenie whacker got axed, so did George, so did I. I can't say I was upset. I was actually pretty ok with it. I loved the job, I didn't like the environment.
So I am looking for a new job. The cool thing is I can do anything I want and it doesn't have to be in automotive. I am really looking forward to trying something new. I am really happy with that.
I am just really happy in general. I have gone back to Fenntucky and I remember why I love it so much. I love the simple life that I live here. I love the family I have. I love knowing I can go see my Grandma anytime I want and I like having my cousins drive by and wave. I like going to my parents for dinner and laughing about what happened during the day.

Something has happened the last few days. My faith has grown. I can feel it. I can feel a sense of peace and happiness. I have more confidence(as if I needed it). I don't normally talk about my faith, and I should, I am proud of it.

So any way I am back and I will try to post more often.
